Questions we're often asked

Should we use Bacs software or a Bacs approved bureau?

It depends on whether you have the internal resource to run Bacs submissions. If you do, software gives you control. If you don't, a Bacs approved bureau submits for you. Interbacs supplies both, and you can switch later.

Do we need a Service User Number to use Bacs software?

Yes. You need your own Service User Number (SUN) for either route: software or a bureau. You apply through a sponsoring bank.

What is Bacstel-IP?

Bacstel-IP is the secure channel every Bacs submission travels over. Your software builds the payment file, signs it with a digital certificate and transmits it. Read more in what is Bacstel-IP software?

Can Bacs software be used for payroll?

For the submission, yes. InterPay and our payroll bureau software submit payroll Bacs files. They don't calculate payroll, produce payslips or file RTI to HMRC.

Is the software hosted or installed?

Either. InterPay is available hosted or on your own servers.
