# How does a Bacs bureau work?

A Bacs approved bureau allows a business, with bank approval, to send payments through a dedicated [Bacs approved software](https://interbacs.com/products?hsLang=en). This allows you to provide a Bacs bureau with a payment file, who will then submit payment instructions on your behalf. This can be done both to make payments and to receive payments.
